Ubuntu Music
Recorded Music Business
Ubuntu Music is a newly formed recorded music label that is committed to bringing quality, accessible jazz and related music genres to increasingly wider audiences. Our approach includes collaborative efforts with an array of performing artists who have a passion for jazz and who possess unique and diversified talents.
The Label was formed by two individuals with complimentary backgrounds: Martin Hummel, Chief Executive & Executive Producer, who has nearly 40 years of extensive experience within marketing, communications and advertising around the world and across multiple business sectors. Throughout his career, he has worked with a number of the biggest names in the music industry. Quentin Collins, co-founder, producer, musician, composer and arranger, is a highly accomplished trumpet player and has toured the world with some of the most respected names in music, along with his extensive recording and producing experience in the studio.
Ubuntu Music debuted its first artist release in 2015 with Noemi Nuti, a dynamic Jazz and Brazilian singing sensation. The album, ‘Nice to Meet You’, is a warm yet joyful acoustic album, where Noemi’s natural and honest approach invites the music to speak for itself, while creating a genuine connection with the listener who is taken on a journey into a variety of musical spaces. Noemi has impressive musical training credentials, has performed at premiere UK jazz venues and has toured throughout Brazil.
The second release featured the formidable, dynamic duo of Quentin Collins on trumpet/flugelhorn and Brandon Allen on saxes, known as QCBA. They are one-of-a-kind front line, and their recording and performing credentials are unmatched. With Ross Stanley on Hammond organ, and Enzo Zirilli on drums, the quartet swings, bops and burns throughout the grooves.
Waiting in the wings with bated breath were some equally exceptional artists--young and old--who are about to explode on the performing stage...
Music from Chet Baker, live in London from 1983, was released to worldwide acclaim in 2016. And then there's the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Ubuntu Music to proudly release a series of live recordings from London, featuring Chet Baker on trumpet, recently discovered 35 years after the performances were recorded.
Camilla George, alto sax prodigy, released her debut quartet album early in 2017 to a wildly enthusiastic reception.
Leo Richardson, tenor sax aficionado, recorded a killer straight-ahead hard bop quartet album, released in October 2017.
And it didn’t stop there…
Over the last few years, new signings have included Mark Kavuma, Alina Bzhezhinska, Martin Speake, New York All-Stars (Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern, Seamus Blake, Mike LeDonne), Reuben Fowler, Laurence Hobgood, Gwen & Tiana, Tom Cawley, Andrew McCormack, Dave O’Higgins & Rob Luft, Hakan Başar, Darius Brubeck, Paul Booth, Jay Phelps, Joe Webb, Meraki, George Colligan, Yoko Miwa and James Copus amongst a number of others, to create this extraordinary line-up of exceptional talent.
An amazing line-up, by anyone's standards, with more to be announced shortly.
The long-term vision for Ubuntu Management Group and Ubuntu Music is to expand its artist management roster, as well as extend its offering to include tour bookings, festival creation and implementation, venue ownership and management, publicity/social media services, in addition to synchronisation, publishing and sponsorship services.
